ISVS Golden Jubilee National Seminar organized at ANDUAT, Ayodhya from 24 to 26 February, 2024
Indian Society of Vegetable Science (ISVS), Varanasi in association with ICAR-Indian Institute of Vegetable Research, Varanasi and Acharya Narendra Deva University of Agriculture and Technology (ANDUAT), Ayodhya organized a three-day ISVS Golden Jubilee National Seminar on “Technological Innovations in Vegetable Production under Changing Climate Regime” from 24-26th February, 2024 at the campus of ANDUAT, Ayodhya. The ISVS is the only society catering to the needs of research & development of vegetable crops in India. From its inception in 1974, the society has played a multifaceted role in conceptualization of future policies, strategies and development of roadmaps for enhancing vegetable production in India. The Chief Guest of inaugural function on 24th February, 2024 was Padam Bhushan Dr RS Paroda, Former DG, ICAR and Chairman, TAAS, New Delhi. Dr. Bijendra Singh, Vice-Chancellor, ANDUAT, Ayodhya; Dr Sudhakar Pandey, ADG (FMVS), ICAR, New Delhi; and Dr Major Singh, Member, ASRB, New Delhi was also present at this occasion. Dr Tusar Kanti Behera, Director, ICAR-Indian Institute of Vegetable Research, Varanasi welcomed the Chief Guest and other dignitaries and briefed about 50 years achievement of ISVS, and also presented the key highlights of the seminar. The ISVS awards for 2022 were conferred to various eminent vegetable researchers viz. Dr Pranab Hazra (Dr Kirti Singh Life-Time Achievement Award), Dr DR Bhardwaj (Dr Bishwajeet Choudhary Memorial Award), Dr Tejpal Singh Sran (Dwarika Nath Memorial Award) and Dr YS Reddy and co-workers (Dr Harbhajan Singh Memorial Award). Dr Paroda in his presidential address lauded the contributions made by vegetable researchers in boosting the production of vegetables in the country through technological interventions and securing nutritional and livelihood security to the vegetable growers. He emphasized the importance of vegetables in achieving Sustainable Developmental Goals (SDGs) on many indicators. For their immense contributions in the agricultural development of the country; Late Dr BR Barwale, Former Chairman, Mahyco, and Dr RS Paroda were also honoured on this occasion. Five technical sessions on various themes related to next generation breeding techniques, biotechnological innovations, climate resilient technology and digital agriculture, surveillance and mitigation of pests, processing, value addition, marketing and exports were organized during the seminar. Several keynote addresses, lead lectures, invited lectures, oral and poster presentations were made during all the technical sessions. More than five hundred researchers, academia, professionals and students from across the country participated in the three days deliberations. Several publications including Handbook of ISVS, Compendium of Vegetable Science, Abstracts book and Souvenir of the seminar were also released. The plenary session was chaired by Dr NC Gautam, Former Vice Chancellor, MGCGV, Satna, MP. In his concluding remark, he lauded the organizers for successful completion of the seminar and urged scientists and researchers to work upon the recommendations which came out of this event. Cultural evening and field visits of ANDUAT, Ayodhya was also organized for the delegates during the seminar.
