Celebration of World Food Safety Day at ICAR-Indian Institute of Vegetable Research, Varanasi

ICAR-Indian Institute of Vegetable Research, Varanasi celebrated the World Food Safety day on June 7, 2019. Food borne diseases adversely affects the socio-economic development, harming national economics, tourism and trade. The programme started with taking pledge collectively by the staff of the institute regarding the issues related with food safety at 11 AM on June 7, 2019. Dr. Sudhir Singh, Principal Scientist (Food technology) presented briefly the importance of five pillars in food safety such as maintenance of personal hygiene, keep cooking and surrounding areas clean, follow keys to safer foods, check food for adulteration and spoilage before consumption and read the labels to know what you are eating. In India, Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) is actively responsible for protecting and promoting public health issues through the regulation and supervision of food safety. Posters on Food safety have also been displayed at the premises of ICAR- IIVR, Varanasi for general awareness on food safety.
