Areas of Interest:
  • Genetic Improvement of Solanaceous and Legume vegetables
  •  Enhancement of vegetable production through use of PGR and , organic farming
Major Research Accomplishments:

Developed  varieties/ lines/ hybrids  like   Manilema,  Manikhamanu, Manithobi, Megha Tomato-1,  Megha Tomato -2 , Kashi Chayan , ToLCV-16, ToLCV-32 in  tomato;  RCMBL-1 (Long), RCMBR-1(Round),RCMBHL-3(Long) and RCMBHL-4 (Oblong) in brinjal ; Kashi Samppan, Kashi Rajhans, VRFBP-44 in French bean; Kashi Haritima, Kashi Khushaal, Kashi Sheetal, IIVRSEM-6, IIVRSEM-501 and IIVRSEM-186 in Indian bean; Kashi Sudha and , Kashi Nidhi in cowpea  and Megha Turmeric-1 in turmeric. Identified sources  for tolerance  to biotic&  abiotic  stresses and quality traits in vegetable crops viz; tomato for ToLCV (H-88-78-1, H-88-78-4, EC-520061, EC-520078 and EC-521080),early blight (EC-520061, WIR-3928, KT-10 and  KT-15),root knot nematode (EC-520070),bacterial wilt (BT-10 andBT-117-5-3-1),heat tolerant upto 40OC (Suncherry, Superbug,VRT-06, CLN2016 and CLN 2026),high TSS (WIR-13708(11.5%),EC-521080(9.5%)and EC-521078(9.4%);high lycopene  (EC-520078(17.6mg/100g) and EC-520078(12.23mg/100g);DYMV toleranance (VRSEM-887and VRSEM-894) and  heat  tolerance  upto 38oC(VRSEM-855 and VRSEM-860)in Indian bean;high yield and   heat tolerance  upto 32oC(Kashi Sampann, Kashi Rajhans) in French bean and early blight  tolerance in colocassia (ML-1 and ML-9).Validated markers like  SSR218170-145 andSSR304158-186  for ToLCV resistant in tomato using Punjab Chhuhara x EC-520061; RAPD (OPC05, OPD9 and OPF14) and SSRs (CEDG 008 and CEDG039) markers  in Indian bean; RAPD marker OPA2  in French bean and SSR marker VM4   in cowpea for studying of  genetic  diversity.
